Der Entwurf von MVSA Architects spielt mit dem Blütenmotiv und legt für das Casino Venlo vier organisch geformte Geschossebenen wie Blätter einer Blütenkrone übereinander. Unterstützt wird der florale Charakter durch eine Fassade, die zu jeder Tageszeit ein anderes Farbenspiel zeigt. Die Fassade besteht aus einem Gitter aus runden Glasscheiben, das mit kleineren Metallelementen durchsetzt ist. Diese sind zweifarbig beschichtet, sodass ihre Farbigkeit je nach Blickwinkel changiert. Im Dunkeln wird die Fassade von integrierten LED beleuchtet.
Auch im Innenraum finden sich fließende organische Formen und das Blumenmotiv im Mittelpunkt des Atriums: Ein stilisierter Blütenstängel verzweigt sich hier zu einem geschwungenen Dachtragwerk. Um die 3,20 Meter starke, massive Holzsäule herum formen Fichtenbögen eine florale Skulptur, die mit Lichtbändern inszeniert wird.
Das Gebäude hat eine Grundfläche von 9.500 m², das schräg geneigte Blütendach erreicht in seiner maximalen Ausdehnung eine Fläche von 55 x 45 Metern. Das geschwungene Baum-Tragwerk mit seinen seitlich gekrümmten und verdrehten „Ästen“ aus rund 300 Freiform-Elementen hat eine Konstruktionshöhe von 1,20 Metern, die Dachbalken sind bis zu 17 Meter lang. Für die Holzverbindungen wurde ein vierlagiges Knotensystem mit vier Brettschichtholzlagen in jeder Richtung entwickelt, heißt es von Seiten der ausführenden Schweizer Holzbaufirma Blumer Lehmann.
Die Elemente für die Tragkonstruktion wurden in der Schweiz vorgefertigt, in der gesamten Konstruktion wurden letztlich mehr als 500 m³ Fichtenholz verbaut. 2.700 Balken und 230 gebogene Rohlinge wurden dafür gefräst, gerade Zuschnitte gab es nur 24 Stück – es habe tatsächlich keine zwei gleichen Bauteile gegeben, so Blumer Lehmann. Das Casino Venlo sei ein sehr hochwertiges Freiform-Projekt, auch wenn man es ihm nicht gleich ansehe, heißt es weiter. Die scheinbar leichte Blütenkrone lasse nicht erahnen, welch eine komplexe Tragstruktur nötig ist, um sie in Position zu halten.
